.research.I will be posting more about my dissertation research as I progress past the concept phase. That said, my studies in anthropology have focused on institutions--the formal and informal rules that govern social interactions--and networks, particularly looking at how networked relationships influence learning, knowledge, and decision making. Those interests lead to my central research question: how do networks and institutional structures influence conservation outcomes in a transnational conservation setting? Central to my research are two competing ideas of knowledge: knowledge as a thing that can be transmitted from one person or group to another, versus knowledge as a process that is highly contextual, influenced by power differentials, and distributed across complex shifting networks.
